Zamboanga: Philippine Red Cross distributes Doxycycline medicines in flood-affected areas in the city

The Philippine Red Cross-Zamboanga City in coordination with Mayor John Dalipe and City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite today distributed doxycycline medicines to frontliners and barangays affected by severe flooding Wednesday.

The activity is in line with the city’s campaign against leptospirosis, a fever-causing illness associated with the rainy season and flooding.

The team composed of the Health Services unit under Mylene Baidiango, along with CHO EPI Coordinator Cora Pagotaisidro CHO HEPO Christine Lim made the rounds of different agencies that took part in the response efforts and the different evacuation centers to distribute the prophylaxis.

The agencies and evacuation centers that received the medicines were the City Engineer’s Office (150 beneficiaries),

City Tourism Office (150 beneficiaries), Zamboanga City Police Office (400 ben),

Barangay Calarian (500 ben), Task Force Zamboanga (350 ben), ZCWD (300 ben),

Barangay Baliwasan (250 ben), Barangay Putik  (250 beneficiaries), PRC BOD- (500 beneficiaries), Barangay Sta Maria (150)

Ciudad Medical Zamboanga Hosp- (100)

ZCGEMPCO (150), WMSU (300), City Social Welfare and Development Office (150).

Meanwhile, the Tzu Chi Foundation donated 10,000 capsules of Doxycycline to PRC Zamboanga City Administrator Joseline Fernandez and Baidiango for quick response.
