Zamboanga city tallies 52 new dengue cases – CHO

Zamboanga City notched 52 new dengue cases last week, but reported no dengue-related mortalities from June 12 to June 18.

According to City Health Office (CHO), the city’s total dengue cases to date has reached 2,628. The most affected age group is the 0 to 9-year-old bracket, logging 51% or 1,344 cases, followed by the 10-19 age group with 31% or 827 cases.

Moreover, 1,916 cases had dengue with warning signs while 641 had dengue with no warning signs.

The local government through its City Health Office continues to conduct dengue prevention and control activities which include community mobilization for the implementation of the 4S strategy, with emphasis on weekly search and destroy initiatives to eradicate mosquito breeding sites.

Fogging activities as well as entomological surveys in barangays with high incidence rates are also conducted.

Dengue incidence rate per 100,000 population in Zamboanga City is 293.24. Barangays with the highest incidence rate per 10,000 population are Divisoria, Mercedes, Boalan, Lanzones, and Sta. Barbara.

An incidence rate describes how quickly disease occurs in a population.

Meanwhile, barangay Tetuan has been identified for clustering of cases and as a hotspot area.

Barangays Putik, Tumaga, and Sta Maria were identified to have clustering of cases.

Clustering is defined as having 3 or more cases in a barangay for the past 4 consecutive weeks. Hotspot is defined as a clustering of cases with increasing number in 2 consecutive weeks.

Barangays under close monitoring due to increasing cases are San Roque, Zambowood, Campo Islam, Zone IV, Sinunuc, Salaan, Bolong, Vitali, and Lumayang.
