Zamboanga City Register Decrease In Dengue Fever Cases

The City Health Office (CHO) has registered a decrease in the number of dengue fever cases in Zamboanga City.

Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer said, from January to May 2020, the office registered 343 cases while for this year 2021, January to May the City registered only 106 cases.

She said, this is 69% lower compared to last year.

For the mortality, this year, for the same period, two deaths were recorded. 12 year old, female from Barangay Tulungatung and a 5 year old female from Barangay Kasanyangan.

Despite the pandemic, Coronavirus Disease 2019, the office is still reminding the residents to be careful especially rainy season is coming.

Dengue fever is a viral disease usually affecting infant and young children. Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes lay eggs on clear and stagnant water and spreads the disease.

The signs and symptoms of dengue fever includes; sudden high fever, joints and muscle pains, skin rashes, nose bleeding, vomiting of coffee colored matters and dark colored stool.

The management of dengue is symptomatic as there is no medicine for dengue fever alone.

For dengue, the CHO is advocating the practice of “4S” strategy. The 4S strategy include the following, search and destroy, self-protection measures, seek early consultation and support fogging in times of increasing cases. (R.G Antonet Go)
