Zamboanga City Medical Center eyes reopening of OPD Building

The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) is eying to re-open its Out Patient Department (OPD) building for OPD services after the service was closed due to the pandemic Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Afdal Kunting, Medical Center Chief, said this will be done after Covid 19 patients will be transferred at the ZCMC Isolation Facility.

They were planning to transfer these patients however, some machines are still needed to be installed like cardiac monitor and the engineers are not available to come to Zamboanga.

Repair must also be done on the OPD Building before reopening as the flooring, elevator, air-conditioner were already damaged which will take three months.

The building was closed and OPD services were stopped due to the pandemic. The building is currently housing Covid 19 patients.

The building is consisting of four floors housing the OPD for dental, Pediatrics, OB Gyne, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Family Medicine, ultrasound, laboratory, parking area, Ear, Nose, and Throat, and other offices.

Before the pandemic, the OPD sees 600 to 800 patients in a day for the five major departments of the ZCMC the OB, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Family Medicine.

Zamboanga City Medical Center is one of the Department of Health regional office 9 retained hospitals to include: Mindanao Central Sanitarium; Labuan Hospital; Basilan General Hospital; Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital; Margosatubig Regional Hospital; and Sulu Sanitarium. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
