Zamboanga City Mayor Order Thorough Probe On San Jose Gusu Fraternity Hazing Incident

Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged hazing incident involving a fraternity that killed a 21-year old student in San Jose Gusu, Sunday, November 15.

The mayor likewise tasked the City Social Welfare and Development Office and other city departments concerned to provide the necessary assistance to the victim’s family.

Based on police report, the incident happened around 10am today at Doña Martha drive in Brgy. San Jose Gusu at the residence of a member of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity, Trigusu Chapter. At least 9 officers and members were allegedly involved in the initiation for 6 applicants, one of which was 21-year old, Joselito F. Enviado of Sarangani Drive, of the same barangay.

During initiation rites, Enviado fainted and was rushed to the ZCMC. However, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Police authorities from PS11 arrested the fraternity leader and in a follow-up operation also collared all those said to be involved in the incident. A brown paddle, approximately 108 centimeters in length was confiscated from the group. (Photo courtesy of PNP)
