Zamboanga City LGU Ordered Cemeteries Closed To Public From October 29 – November 4

Mayor Beng Climaco has issued Executive Order (EO) BC 605-2020 promulgating rules and regulations for strict compliance during the All Saint’s and All Soul’s day on November 1 and November 2, respectively.

Sheila Covarrubias, City Hall Information Officer told RPN DXXX Zamboanga, this is in compliance with IATF Resolution No. 72 dated September 23.

The city government of Zamboanga will close all public and private cemeteries from October 29 to November 4 to prevent mass gathering and further spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) during the observance of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

However, residents can visit the cemeteries any time before Oct. 29 and after November 4, provided they strictly comply with the minimum health and safety protocols issued by Zamboanga City IATF, NIATF and the Department of Health.

Included in the EO are: in the cemetery, tarpaulin of do’s and don’t must be placed while inside and outside the cemetery proper, temperature must be checked prior to entry, bring alcohol, no facemask and face shield no entry, social distancing must be followed, only quarantine pass holders will be allowed to enter the cemetery, queuing area with two meters distancing and the visible floor makings, installation if hand washing area, and regular disinfection of the area before and after visitation.

Cemeteries will be opened from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed by 6 p.m., schedule of visitation may be done by block, only two hours will be given to pray and light candles, no overnight stay, no bringing of food and beverages, only flowers, candles, and personal water containers will be allowed, no putting up of temporary stalls, and no tents and pets allowed.

Some of the old prohibition during the commemoration are still present like the no playing of loud music, bringing of firearms and bladed weapons, bringing, selling and drinking of liquor, gambling, and firecrackers.

The  city administrators office will make sure these are followed with the help of Task Force Zamboanga and the Zamboanga City Police Office. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
