Zamboanga City Implements Enhanced Measures As Davao Due To Surge In COVID Cases

Zamboanga City – Zamboanga City implements enhanced preventive measures similar to Davao City due to sudden spike in COVID-19 cases.

Mayor Ma. Isabel “Beng” Climaco-Salazar said these measures which include the RT-PCR requirement for travelers were approved by the Regional IATF, since previous pattern shows two-week period to mimic increase of COVID cases in the National Capital Region and its neighboring provinces where the record-breaking spike is noted.

As of March 31, 2021, active cases for Zamboanga City soared to 105 from the previous 92, based on the COVID-19 Data Tracker. Confirmed COVID-19 cases totaled 4,351 with 4,052 recoveries and 194 mortalities.

City health authorities observe that most of the cases come from the community and from among authorized persons outside residence or APOR.

The Mayor has issued executive orders 645, 646 and 647 in response to the sudden rise in COVID cases in the city. EO 645 covers updated guidelines for all social events and similar gatherings, E0 646 provides guidelines for interzonal and intrazonal movement of persons or the no swab no entry policy from April 1-30 and EO 647 orders the temporary closure of all beaches, beach resorts, inland water resorts, establishments with pools and other similar establishments from April 2-11.

“As mayor, Zamboanga City residents are my priority with the help of frontliners from government security down to the barangays we maximize vigilance in land and sea to protect our people. However, SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S DUTY,” Climaco stressed.

She added: “In this Lenten season we offer to Jesus our Sacrifice by helping Government keep ourselves and our families safe.” (LGU Public Information Office)
