The Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) reminds residents to be vigilant in observing fire and electrical safety measures to complement the efforts of the Bureau of Fire Protection in preventing destructive fire incidents resulting in loss of lives and damages to properties.

This as SInsp. Vincent Toribio of the ZCFD Chief Administrative Branch apprised members of the local media of the running total of reported fire incidents so far in 2023 during last Tuesday’s press briefing at City Hall.

A total of 19 structural fire (SF) and 53 non-structural fire (NSF) has been recorded in March, which incidentally is observed as Fire Prevention Month in the country.

Since January, the tally of conflagrations has already reached 46 SF and 76 NSF, considerably high compared to the total 107 SF and 76 NSF recorded in 2022.

The fire official likewise reported during the same press briefing that the two most common causes of conflagrations in the city are electrical overloading and unattended cooking/fire.

Meanwhile, Toribio assures Zamboangueños that the ZCFD will conduct intensive routinary inspections to ensure establishments comply with fire safety requirements such as the installation of secondary exits, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and similar items.
