Zamboanga City – City Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar has urged Zamboangueños to keep their guards up and get vaccinated against Covid-19 as an additional mutation of the more contagious coronavirus Delta variant has been detected in the country.

Reports have it as of June 23, the Philippines so far has 17 Delta variant cases with one remaining active and one death.

With the discovery of Delta being the new variant of concern worldwide, people should get vaccinated and religiously observe the minimum health standards from wearing face masks, face shields to observing social distancing and hand sanitation.

Health experts have said that people not wearing face masks, observing physical distancing, and avoiding enclosed spaces can get the virus even during a short interaction with someone carrying the mutated variant.

With these, Climaco-Salazar stressed that people should get vaccinated as protection against the virus, saying that a dose of the vaccine is a dose of hope.

She said the city is intensifying its vaccination rollout as she thanks Pres. Duterte for giving Zamboanga City a priority in the allocation of additional vaccines.

Per City Health Office, the city of Zamboanga has recorded a total of 61,062 residents having vaccinated for the first dose and 17,533 for the second dose.

“Let us make it clear that the city of Zamboanga complies with and abide by the priority listing guidelines of the DOH,” Climaco-Salazar said. (Vic Larato)
