Zambo. gears to reopen tourism next week

The local government gears to reopen the city for leisure and non-essential visits by February after the city was closed due to the pandemic Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Sarita Sebastian, City Tourism Officer said, by February, the city will be accepting outside guests, tourists, and visitors to Zamboanga City, subject to the compliance to entry requirements and observance of minimum health and safety protocols.

Entry requirements for non-essential travels are: Authority to Enter (ATE), negative RT PCR undertaken at a Department Of Health-accredited facility not more than three days prior departure, travel authority with medical certificate and government-issued ID, round-trip ticket, travel itinerary in Zamboanga City, and confirmed hotel booking from list of DOT-accredited non-facility hotels.

For those guests staying in the city for more than five days, another RT PCR test will be required.

Recall, the city has been closed to tourists and non-essential travels since March last year, following the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) amid the public health risks of Covid-19.

The tourism industry was greatly affected to include the city’s premier destination Sta Cruz Island and Once Islas.

As of January 22, the city have 3,872 confirmed cases of Covid 19, for the recoveries 3,571, active cases 120, and deaths 181. (R.G. A A. Go)
