Zambo city hosts Nat’l Archery Cup

The 23rd Philippine Archery Cup, Leg 3 and 2024 Grassroots Archery Development Program, Leg 3, officially commenced Thursday, October 3, gathering around 300 archers, technical officials, parents, and guests from all over the Philippines.

The tournament, held at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex, Zamboanga City was organized by the World Archery Philippines (WAP), Inc. and was officially declared open by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Consultant Bernard Ricablanca, representing WAP Secretary General Arch. Rosendo Sombrio.

Together with Ricablanca were PSC Consultant Elbert C. Atilano, and WAP Tournament Director Nestor Bulosan. The tournament runs from Friday, October 4 until Sunday, October 6.

Mayor John Dalipe fired the ceremonial shot signifying the start of the both the 23rd Philippine Archery Cup and the Grassroots Archery Development Program.

Archery is just one of the 17 sports events included in the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2024, adding to the city’s vibrant celebration. Archers who will win gold medals will receive P3K cash, P2K for silver medalists, and P1K cash for bronze medalists.

Zamboanga City, being the host of the event has provided free accommodations for archers and coaches at the sports dormitory located within the Sports Complex.

The sports dormitory is fully air-conditioned with a common toilet and bath, ensuring a convenient stay for the visiting athletes.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Sports Development Officer Dr. Cecilia Atilano, OIC City Police Director PCOL Kimberly Molitas, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Randolph Rojas, and various others. (Bernadeth Lazaro)
