WMSU eyes limited face to face classes for nursing students

The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) is eying to implement a limited face to face classes especially for their nursing students.

Ma Carla A. Ochotorena, WMSU President told RPN DXXX Zamboanga, they are studying the possibility to allow face to face classes for the College of Nursing.

The president said, they are studying the possibility for the third year students. Especially for the skills like the hospital duty for the operating room, delivery room, and in the area of psychiatry.

Ochotorena who is also a registered nurse explained that for nursing, its very hard to give instructions online since skills are needed to include demo and return demo.

The school will also have consultation with parents if they will agree with the idea.

Aside from this health and safety protocols incase this will push through will also be strengthened and complied as mandated by the Commission on Higher Education.

Another thing she said is funding and who will shoulder incase the students will get sick. That’s why they will also study the matter carefully.

The 50 faculties for the College of Nursing are also ready to come back to school.

WMSU has 1,000 students for the College of Nursing alone.

Recall, President Rodrigo Duterte has allowed the resumption of limited face-to-face classes for medical and allied health programs in institutions in areas under general and modified general community quarantine (GCQ) and (MGCQ).

Last year to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid the coronavirus pandemic, the government has suspended face-to-face or in-person classes and instead promoted alternative learning methods. (R.G. A A. Go)
