Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer dismissed reports that he will run for Governor in 2022.

Ferrer, who is the President of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA), told reporters that they will support the re-election bid of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Ferrer made the assuranceĀ in the wake of reports that a Negrense lawyer might challenge the reelection bid of Lacson, the standard bearer of Love Negros. Both Lacson and Ferrer agreed on a unity ticket in the 2019 elections and won.

Ferrer said that if there is someone to run against Lacson in the 2022 gubernatorial race, it willĀ not come from UNegA. Ferrer further said that his plan isĀ to seek reelection as running mate of Lacson next year.

Earlier, LacsonĀ brushedĀ aside reports that he will be challenged in the next election. He said he will just continue his work for now as the governor of the province. Lacson also said that the coalition between Love Negros and UNegA remains strong.

He administered the oathtaking of newly elected officials of UNegA, now headed by Sagay City Mayor Alfredo MaraƱon III, who replaced his father, the late Gov. Alfredo MaraƱon Jr., as party chairman.

The filing of the certificate of candidacy for the 2022 elections is in October 2021.
