Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer confirmed that his office and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan were placed under lockdown recently after a technical assistant of a board member tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.

This is the second time the said offices were “locked down.” The first was on Aug 4, after another technical assistant of a board member also tested positive for the virus.

Ferrer said that their normal operations will resume Tuesday (September 8) next week.

The temporary closure of these offices will pave the way for the disinfection and decontamination for several days.

He also said that employees assigned to these offices were advised not to report for work yesterday afternoon.

But employees assigned to the SP administrative offices located at the basement of the Capitol’s south wing will continue to hold office.

Meanwhile Himamaylan Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson Jr. has issued an executive order placing barangays of Aguisan, Saraet, and Sitio Punta Talaban in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental under lockdown effective immediately, up to Sept 15.

The lockdown affects about 3,000 households.

This after six residents of the barangays, including a fisherman, tricycle driver and transient vendors, tested positive for COVID-19, Tongson said in his executive order.

Residents will not be allowed to leave their respective areas and the affected families will be provided with basic food assistance, Tongson said. (Dolly Yasa via The Daily Guardian (TDG), photo by TDG)
