UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES
07 MAY 2021
[ERRATUM: We earlier reported 2 cases from San Jose. There was an inaccuracy in the counting. This was supposed to be just 1 case. The other case was already counted in a previous report.
Dinagat Islands has 3 new confirmed cases:
- 1 from Basilisa, infected via local transmission;
- 1 from Cagdianao, a returning resident whose RT-PCR test came out positive; and
- 1 from San Jose, admitted to a hospital in Surigao City

Those who are not admitted to the hospital in Surigao City will be transferred to the Provincial Care and Containment Center (PCCC) for proper isolation, monitoring, and treatment. With this development, we now have 92 active COVID-19 cases. This brings our all-time total to 314.
Cases infected via local transmission are tested through contact tracing efforts of our health workers. This system can only work if people are honest when it comes to their exposure to infected persons.

With this, we want to reassure citizens that there is nothing to be afraid of if you’re a close contact. Being tested and placed in quarantine is far better than being infected, infecting others, and fighting the disease alone.

We continue to ask everyone to observe our health and safety protocols. COVID-19 is a real disease. Denying its existence is dangerous for you and the people around you. Always wear face masks especially in public and practice social distancing. Attending mass gatherings such as a fiestas and parties and traveling to areas outside the province places you at risk of infection, which also puts your family members in potential danger. COVID-19 prevention begins with ourselves and in our households.
Let us support each other in this fight. Our communities are our frontlines against this pandemic and its effects to our everyday lives.
