Mayor Evelio Leonardia, City Administrator Em Ang, and Bacolod City College administrator Dr. Ma. Johanna Ann Bayoneta hold an online meeting with British Embassy-Manila political counsellor Iaian Cox, who also heads the embassy’s Political and Economic section, and Human Rights senior officer Kristine Borja yesterday.
In February last year, the British Embassy officials also met with Leonardia and other City Hall executives at the Bacolod City Government Center.
The United Kingdom’s British Embassy wants to learn more about Bacolod City’s investment climate, tourism, and peace and order situation in order to have a better understanding of the City as a destination for British nationals and businessmen.
The Embassy officials expressed UK’s plans to step up their support and engagement in areas of economic development, business environment , urban planning with emphasis on future cities model, health, transnational education, climate resilience, and security cooperation.
The meetings are part of the embassy’s regular regional engagements to gain better understanding of the social and economic developments outside of Metro Manila, as they advance the UK’s bilateral cooperation with the Philippines.
At the online meeting, the mayor and the city administrator presented Bacolod’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its economic recovery program.
They also gave updates on the major flagship projects of the Leonardia administration, as well as the status of business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the city.
Cox also reiterated their invitation to Bacolodnons to avail of a fully funded scholarship called Chevening.
Chevening is UK government’s international awards programme aimed at developing future leaders. It offers two types of awards – master’s degree and fellowships.
