All qualified Filipino citizens who are not registered overseas voters have until Thursday to register for the 2022 elections, according to the Commission on Election (Comelec).

In a statement issued last Wednesday, the poll body said the two-week extension for overseas voter registration will end on Oct. 14, 2021.

“The Commission on Elections reminded all qualified Filipinos who are currently overseas, or will be overseas on the day of the election, to avail of the extended voter registration period,” Comelec said.

Those who want to beat the deadline may go to the nearest Philippines post.

“The complete listings of the overseas voter registration centers worldwide are available at the DFA-OVS’ website at http://www.dfa-oavs.gov.ph and COMELEC at www.comelec.gov.ph,” Comelec said.

“Registrants are advised to check the hours of operation of each office before their visit,” it added.

For Filipino citizens, they must fill out and print 3 copies of the OVF-1 Form at Rehistro for Overseas Voting https://irehistro.comelec.gov.ph/irehistro/ovf1.

Upon their application, they should bring a valid Philippine passport, or  the certification of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

If the applicant is a dual citizen, he or she must bring his or her Citizen Retention and Reacquisition Act (Republic Act No. 9225) or Identification Certificate issued by the Post or Bureau of Immigration.

Seafarers who will register must bring a photocopy of their Seaman’s Book or any other pertinent document.

The overseas voter registration was supposed to have ended on Sept. 30, 2021, but it was extended by the Comelec to give more time to aspiring voters to register and participate in the elections next year.
