Technology Helps Maintain Civil Service Amidst Pandemic

Davao del Norte – The 120th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary Davao del Norte celebration today highlighted the role of technology in helping maintain civil service during the pandemic.

In a virtual celebration of the anniversary, Governor Edwin I. Jubahib and CSC Davao del Norte Field Director Nancy A. Tuason gave their speeches on civil service during today’s digital age.

“Karong bulan sa Setyembre, atong isa-ulog ang ika 120 years sa Philippine Civil Service sa tema nga ‘public sector in the age of digital transformation’,” Gov. Jubahib said.

“This year’s theme is Philippine Civil Service at 120 public sector in the age of digital transformation to emphasize government’s efforts in using technology to modernize public service delivery especially during crisis situations,” Tuason said.

Tuason shared that the work-from-home setup was difficult to implement but with the help of technology it was made successful.

“The work-from-home as an alternative work arrangement during the Enhanced Community Quarantine was very challenging at the start, but with the aid of modern technology we have proven that work from home can work, a clear manifestation of the usefulness of modern technology to a diligent employee,” she said.

Governor Jubahib shared the same sentiments as he expressed the readiness of the government in delivering service under any situation.

“Wala nahimong babag ang pandemya sa atong mga katungdanan, ug gani nahimo kini nato nga hagit aron ma kahuna-huna ug mas epektibo nga mga lakang aron mas mapalambo nato ang serbisyo alang sa katawhan gamit ang Information Technology,” he added.

The governor concluded his speech by highlighting the contributions of digital transformation in strengthening the government’s programs.

“Ug pinaagi sa digital transformation mas napakusgan nato ang mga programa sa social welfare, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, information and communication, security and peace and order,” he said.

With the increasing relevance of using technology in delivering civil service, Tuason reminded the civil workers to keep the protection of integrity in doing their job.

“Together, let us keep in mind the protection of integrity in the civil service as we learn to love the use of this modern technologies. In doing so, we demonstrate the ‘malasakit sa ating bayan’ that our predecessors have strongly defended for 120 years,” she added.

Closing her speech, Tuason called for the civil workers to stay united, that even during challenging situations, work can be done.

“My dear colleagues, for as long as we are clear and united in the genuine purpose of working for the government, nothing can stop us from doing good for the Filipino people even in trying times or crying times. Just remember, it is an honor to serve the country and be part of the Philippine Civil Service,” she concluded. (Jan Vincent Leuterio, PIA-XI)
