DAVAO DEL NORTE:  Tagum City’s Traffic Management Office (TMO) collected a total of 3.3 Million pesos in penalty fees from road violators in the year 2019.

City Mayor Allan L. Rellon highlighted this report as he discussed the accomplishments on Genuine Peace, Safety, and Security (GPSS) development during the 6th State of the City Address he delivered at the City Hall Atrium.

In year 2019, the government put serious effort in enforcing traffic laws, placing checkpoints in major streets, highways, and patrols in corners throughout the city resulting to massive hand-outs of citation tickets and impoundments.

“We have instilled discipline right at our roads,” Rellon said.

He explained that the 3.3M-Peso collection was generated from the TMO’s issuance of citation tickets on penalty fees.

“512 motorcycles were impounded and nearly 3,000 underwent refresher seminars,” he added.

As well, re-orientation sessions  on traffic laws to vehicle operators or drivers were conducted to further enforce road safety.

The common violations that warranted citation tickets included driving with no helmet, no license or registration, and illegal parking.

With this, drivers and vehicle owners in 2020 have become more traffic law abiding than before.

Mayor Rellon also highlighted during the State of the City Address the city’s accomplishments in prioritizing education, employment and cultural development; intensification of agricultural programs in agriculture, fisheries and environmental development.

He also mentioned the championing of people welfare in livelihood and tourism development, and the Department of Trade and Industry’s declaration of Tagum as the 2nd Most Efficient Local Government Unit in the entire Philippines. (Jan Vincent Leuterion, UM-Tagum OJT/PIA/Davao del Norte/jmda)
