The Tayo Change Agency Co. and Kids for Kids inked partnership with DepEd Siargao Island, in support with the LGU-Del Carmen under the leadership of Mayor JR Coro, for the construction of the first-ever Climate Resilient, Creative Learning Hub in Caraga region called BAYAY HALIAN.
This innovative, green space will be constructed in Halian Elementary School, Brgy. Halian, Del Carmen, Siargao Island this year. The integration of various projects into this program—from environmental workshops tailored-fit for remote island communities, use of renewable energy, classroom hydroponics, to creative play and mental health activities, make this structure special and one-of-a kind learning avenue that is aligned with the post-disaster missions for last mile island communities— reimagining community development initiatives supporting growth beyond what existed prior to typhoon with an emphasis on nourishing positive, holistic youth development.
Through this program and all the projects initiated for education, our hope for Brgy. Halian is to become a model self-sustaining island, and a microcosm of how culture, creativity, and community can work together as pillars of systems transformation.
