City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council Infrastructure Development Committee, led the Quarterly Meeting held today, November 14, 2023, at the NEDA Regional Office Caraga in Butuan City.

During the session, the RDC-IDC took a step in endorsing the construction of an Airport and Bus terminal in Bislig City, amounting to P500 million. The proposal is set to be included in the Regional Development Investment Program (RDIP) for the years 2023-2028. Following this, a formal endorsement will be sent to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for inclusion in its FY 2025 Budget Proposal.

In addition, the committee addressed the pressing issue of ticket scalping at Nasipit Port. A request was made to the Municipality of Nasipit to pass an Ordinance penalizing ticket scalpers, who, by hoarding available ship tickets and selling them at inflated prices, hinder the port users’ access to essential services.

It is noteworthy that, in line with Executive Order No. 41, S. 2023, Local Government Units (LGUs) are now mandated to cease the collection of pass-through fees from motor vehicles transporting goods and merchandise along national roads and other roads not constructed by the LGUs. This directive aims to streamline the movement of goods across regions, contributing to the efficient transportation of commodities and potentially reducing prices of essential goods.

The outcomes of this significant meeting mark a substantial stride towards regional development and efficient governance, reinforcing the commitment of the City Government of Surigao to address critical issues and contribute to the progress of the entire region.
