Surigao: Malimono Cops arrested 45 years old suspect for RA No. 9262

In a recent development highlighting the determined response with which authorities address cases of violence against women, the Malimono Police Station held under its custody a male seafarer accused charged for violating the Republic Act 9262, An Act Defining Violence against Women and their Children, yesterday.

Provincial Top Cop, Police Colonel LAUDEMER M LAUDE, disclosed the information of the male accused, a 45-year-old, who works as a seafarer, with known residency at P-1, Barangay Bunyasan, Malimono town, Surigao del Norte.

Around 4:35 PM, yesterday, a member of a prestigious seafarer’s organization was arrested by police authorities at Barangay San Isidro, Malimono town. He will be facing charges under Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, cited as a specific violation of comprehensive law.

Anchored with his committed offense, served the copy of his warrant of arrest under criminal case no. 13498 issued by Regional Trial Court, 10th Judicial Region, Branch 30, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte duly signed by the Honorable Presiding Judge dated November 21, 2023, with a recommended bail bond fixed at the amount of Php24,000.

“All of us are reminded by this episode that nobody should stand above the law, no matter how high they may rise in the community, or position they play at their workplace. This emphasizes how dedicated the law enforcement is to protecting women’s and children’s rights and making sure that those who committed this abuse are held responsible for their illegal acts and impose lawful penalties,” PD Laude said.

At present, the arrested accused is placed under the custody of Malimono Municipal Police Station, where proper legal procedures will be followed to determine the decision of the court in accordance with the law. (Mark James Lisondra)
