Surigao: Efficient Response By BFP and Local Agencies Control Fire at Barangay Luna

A prompt and effective response by the Surigao City Central Fire Station, in collaboration with local agencies, swiftly brought a fire incident at Parkway Building, Brgy. Luna, under control on May 6, 2024.

Led by acting city fire marshal FSINSP Eduardo Quinto Jr., the BFP Surigao City Central Fire Station promptly mobilized resources to address the emergency. The situation escalated to a 3rd alarm, as declared by BFP Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Administration, FSSUPT Renel Belonio, who served as the ground commander.

The fire was declared extinguished at precisely 5:25 pm. Regional Chief of Staff FSSUPT Rey Bautista and Acting SDN Provincial Fire Marshal FCINSP Julius Daryl Bulatao also assisted during the fire incident.

Several agencies and organizations extended their support during the operation, including San Juan Fire Sub-Station, Nabago Fire Sub-Station, OPFM-SDN personnel, BFP Caraga SRF, Sison FS, San Francisco FS, Surigao City PNP, Philippine Coast Guard, Civil Security Unit, Community Fire Auxiliary Group of Brgy. Luna, FIL-CHINESE Fire volunteers, PDRRMO/ASSERT, CDRRMO, REACT Miners, QART, and Surigao City Traffic Management Office.

Additionally, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office provided assistance to 102 participants (Supervisors, School Heads, Master Teachers, Siargao Division Staff) of a scheduled 5-day Division Training of Trainers after their training venue was affected by the fire. Temporary accommodations were arranged at the City Gymnasium for the affected individuals.

The swift response and collaborative efforts of Gov. Lyndon Barbers, Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra, Siargao DepEd Superintendent Dr. Karen L. Galanida, CSWDo, CDRRMO, and QART ensured the seamless assistance and relocation of the fire victims to a nearby hotel.
