Police Provincial Office condoles to the bereaved family for the tragic demise of one PNP Member, Patrolman Bryan Calo Gregorio of PSBRC Class 2017-01, presently assigned at 2nd Surigao del Norte (SDN) Provincial Mobile Force Company who was shot by New People’s Army led by Alberto Castańeda a.k.a. “JD”, leader of SYP16C2, GF16, NEMRC at Sitio Kugtong, Brgy. Poblacion, Bacuag, SDN, April 20, 2021.
Provincial Director (PD) Police Colonel Noel C Espinoza revealed that while the victim was having his personal necessity at the back portion of the camp, burst of gun fires were heard by the personnel. Upon verification, the victim was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds on his stomach.
Based on the investigation, the suspects were positioned in the vegetated area at thirty-seven (37) linear meters away from the victim. After the burst of gunfire, suspects withdrew towards Brgy. Sto. Rosario, Bacuag, SDN.
Recovered at the crime scene were the following; Two (2) jacket fragments; and Six (6) fired cartridge cases of 5.56mm.
2nd SDN PMFC conducted hot pursuit operations for the possible arrest of the suspects and further coordinated with the neighboring police stations and other friendly forces.
Bacuag MPS is still preparing for an Affidavit of Complaint against ALBERTO CASTAÑEDA a.k.a. “JD”, et. al to be filed immediately before the Prosecutors Office.
The cadaver of the victim is now at Bacuag RHU for the conduct of post-mortem examination while his immediate family was also informed of the incident.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Pat Gregorio. Rest assured that they will be given all available assistance from the government if only to ease their suffering over this tragic loss. Further, we condemn this inhumane act of the NPA rebels, they can run but they can’t hide from the law,” PD Espinoza said. (RPN DXKS Surigao via SDN PPO)
