Surigao del Norte government and NCCA conducted Visual Art Competition

The Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, in cooperation with the Department of Education – City, Siargao and Province’s Divisions held a “Visual Art Competition” last Monday, November 07, 2022, 9:00AM – 4:00PM at the Provincial Convention Center.

This is in celebration of the National Indigenous Peoples’ Month which highlights the plight of our indigenous peoples. In this competition, the subject is

the Mamanwa and his way of life. The resilience of the indigenous peoples has long withstood the test of time, in spite of the countless of adversities they face in their struggles for their ancestral domain and cultural identity.

The competition focused on the Mamanwa as subject of the Charcoal Painting Contest, Landscape Painting Contest and Mixed – Media Art Contest.

Arturo M. Cruje, Provincial Consultant of the Provincial Governor’s Office in Education, Culture and the Arts said for the first time, the Surigao Tattoo Artists’ Association displayed samples of their tattoo designs. Prizes for the competitions with the total amount of ₱ 100,000.00 came from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. (Rhoda Mae Sacro, Ronda 25)
