Surigao: 1st medical and surgical mission after Super Typhoon Odette launched in Siargao

Hundreds of patients are now lined up at Siargao Island Medical Center in Dapa, Surigao del Norte to avail of free surgery by specialists from Singapore, Cebu City and Surigao City sponsored by 1st District Representative Francisco Jose “Bingo” Matugas II.

The operation called Bagtik Mega Medical Mission started last January 26 until January 29 this year. The free surgical services include major and minor operations like goiter, parotid gland tumors, gallstone, ovarian cysts, myoma, hydrocele, almoranas, cataracts and other medical problems.

Congressman Bingo Matugas said there are 120 medical personnel now are serving the mission in Siargao to include 59 specialists from Cebu City and Singapore while the rest are nurses.

Free cataract surgery and cervical cancer screening are now also conducted at the Family Life Center and Pastoral Center in General Luna.

Dr. Chloe Digal in a statement to RPN DXKS last night, there were already more than 180 patients listed for major surgery, 200 for minor surgery and 55 patients admitted last night for the major surgery today.

The team of doctors decided to accept walk-in patients for those who failed to avail of the pre-screening.

On January 28, the members of IBP Cebu and Surigao del Norte Chapters will also conduct libreng konsulta and libreng notaryo at Siargao Island Institute of Technology at Sto. Niño street, Brgy. 12, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.
