Student pilot dies in La Union plane crash

A 25-year-old Filipino student pilot died after his plane crashed in La Union on Wednesday, May 26, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The pilot will remain unidentified until the next of kin is notified, the CAAP said, adding the body was retrieved by local residents  area.

A student of the First Aviation Academy (FAA) in Subic Bay International Airport, the pilot was conducting a solo cross-country flight on board a trainer plane, Tecnam P-2010 with registry number RP-C8230,. 

It reportedly crashed landed at Barangay Urayong Bayan in Bauang, La Union at 1:30 p.m. today.

The CAAP Operations and Rescue Coordination Center (ORCC) said the flight plan indicated the plane originated from Iba Airport in Zambales and will fly to La Union Airport and Lingayen Airport, then back to Iba Airport.

Ranier Allan Ronda and Harry Paradero from the CAAP Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) have been dispatched to help determine the cause of the accident.
