Six migrant workers or “sacadas” from Antique tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Negros Occidental Provincial Incident Management Team head Dr. Zeaphard said 600 sacadas, who are part of 5,000 laborers who will be working in the sugarcane fields as the new sugar milling season begins, have been tested for COVID-19.

After their arrival at the Bredco port here, the migrant workers from Antique underwent RT-PCR testing.

They were then transported to their quarantine quarters while awaiting the results.

Caelian said those who test positive were immediately brought to the province’s isolation facility in Silay City, while those who are negative are given clearance to work.

“We placed them on quarantine, and isolated from one another,” Caelian said.

Some of them will be working in Isabela, while others will be working in Kabankalan, he added.
