Antonio “Tony” Fernando, the “last man standing” broadcast journalist was cited together with 15 others by former Zamboanga Congressman Celso Lobregat over the weekend in Zamboanga.
Fernando and 15 others were recognized by Lobregat for their golden contribution to the Media industry in Zamboanga.
The award was presented during a media gathering last January 25, 2020 at a post Alavar Restaurant.
The awardees recieved a golden microphone with a base made up from a fallen mango tree from the Lobregat residence at Nunez Street, Zamboanga City.
The awardees were Former Congressman Erbie A. Fabian, Jess Alcoran, Victor “Katala” Liozo Jr., Edgar Banos, Felino Santos, former Councilor Rey Candido, Abelardo “Nonie” Dondoyano, Becky Fonollera, Gerasimo “Gerry” Acuna, Danny Macansantos, Roseller “Ller” Enriquez, Tita Toralba and Antonio “Tony” Fernando.
Fernando, who started his stint as a broadcaster in the early 1960’s and was considered a top-rated program host of his time. Tony, who does not want to be called “veteran broadcaster” but rather a “Jurasic” Broadcaster in this age of millenium.

Fernando told the crowd of media practitioners, his coming back in RPN DXXX Zamboanga, leaves a message to his listeners in jest that “he is well and alive and still a hearthrob”.
Tony Fernando, who was also known “Blackhawk” over the air during his stint as a reporter of “Noche de Ronda”, the longest news and current affairs program of RPN DXXX Zamboanga. With him then were Liozo, whose namesake “Katala” – another kind of bird.
Fernando host Monday to Friday an entertainment program dubbed “Tunying ma uling” from 9:00am to 10:00am and every Sunday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, dubbed “Kape por la Tarde”.
