SIXTEEN gold medalists in the virtual Women’s Martial Arts Festival will be featured in the Philippine Sports Commission’s (PSC) web series “Rise Up, Shape Up” on Saturday.

The episode will talk about the athletes and the indigenous martial art with PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram discussing a short history of arnis in her regular K-Isport segment.

Stories of the arnis gold medalists and their winning performances will be the focus of the episode, starting with Kristine Petacoste, the pride of Butuan City who won gold in the Juniors Traditional Single Weapon category.

Liendzhay Gigante of Pasig City will also share her experience in topping the Juniors Traditional Double Weapon class and Jana Lorraine Quintilla, of Rizal, who exhibited sports excellence in the Juniors Traditional Espada Y Daga event for 13 to 15 years old, will also share her story.

“The Women’s Martial Arts Festival held last July 8 to 31, supports the agency’s commitment to strengthening sports and fitness in the country,” PSC Chairman William Ramirez said.

Kiram, who handles the PSC’s Women in Sports Commissioner, said that the event celebrates women’s strength in the field of martial arts.

The program also aims to support Republic Act 9710, also known as the “Magna Carta of Women,” which defends women’s right to equal participation in sports.
