PNP-AFP Checkpoint Intercepts Explosives, Food Supplies For NPA

Joint police and army checkpoint led to the interception of two motorcycles loaded with explosives and food supplies for the New People’s Army (NPA) around 12:30 PM last Wednesday (March 31) in Brgy. Poblacion 2, Santiago town, Agusan del Norte.

PNP Caraga Director POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M CARAMAT, JR said that the items were loaded in two single motorcycles driven by Darnel B. Jaudian, 24 years old, male and Raymund M. Tanghal, 24 years old, male both residents of Brgy. Telesfora, Tubay, Agusan del Norte

Confiscated from the suspects were 15 meters of detonating cord, one pipe bomb-type Improvised Explosive Device, two magazines for 5.56mm loaded with live ammunition, 33 rounds of caliber 5.56 live ammunition, and several assorted goods and food supplies.

Based on intelligence report, the items were supposed to be delivered for the members of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front (GF)16, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee under the command of Rolando Leyson, Jr. a.k.a. Ka-Edroy.

“The confiscated items are supposed to be supplied for the 52nd NPA anniversary celebration on March 29 but were delayed due to tightened security measures and law enforcement operations regionwide,” RD CARAMAT, JR. added.

He also thanked the community for providing tip to the authorities on the transport of explosives and supplies to the hinterland of Brgy Poblacion 2 in the municipality of Santiago that led to the successful interception.

Arrested persons together with the pieces of evidence were brought to Santiago Municipal Police Station as appropriate charges have been prepared for filing in court. (PMAJ DOROTHY M TUMULAK, RPIO)
