Surigao City – The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao played a crucial role in facilitating and ensuring the smooth and secure flow of traffic within the Port of Surigao during the highly anticipated Sakay-Sakay Abayan Festival 2023 held in the yesterday morning of June 1, 2023.
This fluvial procession, held in honor of Virgen dela Paz Y Buen Viaje, the revered Patroness of Peace and Good Voyage, attracted a multitude of devotees who flocked to the Port of Surigao for the festivities.
With eager anticipation, devotees gathered at the port, eager to board Navy ships and motorbancas that were adorned with exquisite floral arrangements. Port police operatives and operations personnel of the PMO worked diligently to ensure the success of the event and maintain order, particularly in the embarkation and disembarkation of devotees at ships.
The Fluvial Parade, a highlight of the Sakay-Sakay Abayan Festival, once again showcased the remarkable power of unity, faith, and cultural heritage among residents of Barangay Taft. This vibrant community, where the Port of Surigao is located, came together to honor Virgen dela Paz Y Buen Viaje in a spectacle of devotion and celebration.
The PMO’s efforts in coordinating the traffic flow within the port played a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the event, enabling the community to host meaningful events at the city’s waterfront.
