The country now has the second most number of Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) issued for Covid-19 vaccines, according to Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In an interview with PTV, FDA Director General Eric Domingo said the country joined Mexico with most number of issued EUA for Covid vaccines after Hungary.

Currently, Hungary 8 EUAs issued to 8 Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers.

Both Philippines and Mexico each have 6 EUAs for Covid-19 vaccine.

Domingo said the country has issued EUAs for the Covid-19 vaccines of Pfizer-Biontech; AstraZeneca; Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology; and Sinovac Biotech/

He said they also issued a “conditional” EUA to Bharat Biotech and a regular EUA to Johnson & Johnson for their respective Covid-19 vaccines.

This despite the US FDA’s ongoing investigation on the reported blood clots to one in every million of its recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine of Johnson & Johnson.

“So we noted to DOH, that before the roll out [of the Covid-19 vaccine of Johnson & Johnson] they need to craft clear guidelines to inform those who will be vaccinated to watch out for [blood clot] symptoms and where they should go for treatment,” Domingo said.

Domingo said they may standardize the guidelines for jabs based on adenoviral vectors, due to the blood clots the said vaccines.

Aside from the Johnson & Johnson, other adenoviral vectors based vaccines are those from AstraZeneca and Gamaleya.

Domingo said FDA maintains its position that the benefits of using the six Covid-19 vaccine with EUA outweighs its potential risk to recipients.

He said the granting of the EUA, will allow the government to tap more manufacturers to supply the country needed Covid-19 vaccine doses.
