The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has yet to finalize the appropriate package for the indemnification of qualified vaccine beneficiaries
“We already have study a on this, which will be discussed by the [PhilHealth] Board later following Holy Week,” PhilHealth President and CEO Dante Geirran said in an interview with PTV on Monday.
Under Republic Act 11521 or the Covid-19 Vaccination Program Act, the government has allocated P500 million, which will be managed by PhilHealth, to serve as indemnity for people who will die, suffer permanent disability or hospital confinement, due to serious adverse event (SAR) from taking the vaccine.
As of March 18, 2021, the government disclosed 7,469 medical workers reported they suffered adverse effects following immunization (AEFI).
In a related development, Geirran reiterated that people who will avail of the Covid-19 vaccine from the government are not required to have a PhilHealth ID per se.
He noted the PhilHealth ID is just one of the many IDs together with passports and driver’s license that people could present to register for the government’s vaccine drive.
On Tuesday, the government already reported 668,018 people were given the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccine.
