THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will no longer apply “sit-out sanctions” for players who played abroad but want to enter or play again in the league, according PBA chairman Ricky Vargas.
Players like Kiefer Ravena of NLEX, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. of TNT Tropang Giga and Robert Bolick of NorthPort who already played for the PBA before deciding to play overseas can still play in the league but their rights remain with their respective teams.
“If they comeback, they will remain with their respective PBA teams. Their teams will still have the rights at them whether they decide to trade or keep them,” said Vargas, TNT’s governor, following the league’s recent board of governors’ planning session in Paris, France.
But the players who skipped the PBA draft and decided to play as pros overseas like Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena, Rhenz Abando, SJ Belangel and RJ Abarrientos need to go through the draft pool in their first three years of eligibility.
On their fourth and fifth year, these players will go to a special lottery while pro players who will forgo applying for the draft for six years will pass through the league’s board of directors for deliberation.
