The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Zamboanga del Sur conducted a Marine Wildlife Rescue and Handling training from September 3-6 to enhance the skills of environmental personnel in wildlife rescue and conservation.
Participants included staff from the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of Dumanquillas Bay Protected Landscape and Seascape (DBPLS), Mt. Timolan Protected Landscape (MTPL), coastal staff from CENROs Ramon Magsaysay and Guipos, and the DENR-IX Regional Office.
The first part of the training, held in Brgy. Danan, Vincenzo Sagun, featured lectures led by PAMBCS Chief Brendelyn Madarang, along with Gwean Zennica L. Visande and Nowe B. Rodriguez. The topics covered the Wildlife Act, biology and ecology of water birds and turtles, wildlife handling, species identification, and rescue, rehabilitation, and release protocols.
The second part, held at the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center (RWRC) in Brgy. Baclay, Tukuran, provided participants hands-on experience in wildlife handling techniques under the guidance of RWRC In-charge Nowe B. Rodriguez.
This training supports DENR’s ongoing efforts to strengthen wildlife rescue and conservation in the region.
