In the spirit of environmental conservation and community engagement, the Mt. Timolan Protected Landscape (MTPL) β Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of PENRO Zamboanga del Sur commemorated its 24th anniversary last August 15, 2024 with a series of activities participated by PAMO staff led by PASu Mario B. Ronulo, MTPL tour guides, drivers, and other stakeholders.
The highlight of the celebration was the launching of the Balete Drive Experimental Forest, a corporate social responsibility project of the MTPL Tour Guides & Habal-Habal Drivers Association with the theme, βSowing a Seed of Hope to Build a Climate Change-Impact Resilient Protected Area Environment”. This initiative focused on the reforestation of areas affected by landslides through the planting of balete trees and other native species such as bocaue bamboo, which are instrumental in soil stabilization and erosion prevention. The project stands as a beacon of MTPL’s dedication to ecological preservation and sustainable tourism practices. It highlights the critical role of community involvement in safeguarding our natural resources while improving service standards for tourists.
A short program and team-building activity were also conducted. One of the key speakers was Technical & Creative Service Provider Mr. Michael Guhil, who shared his insights about the unique features of Mt. Timolan and its impact on the lives of everyone. He also highlighted the livelihood the ecotourism area provides. MTR Travel Specialist and Tour Operator Ms. Marivic Ramirez facilitated the team-building activities that aimed to strengthen the relationships of the staff and foster a supportive work environment that would enhance the tourism experience for visitors. A Philippine Sailfin Lizard (ππΊπ₯π³π°π΄π’πΆπ³πΆπ΄ π±πΆπ΄π΅πΆππ’π΅πΆπ΄) previously rescued and rehabilitated was also released to its natural habitat in Lake Maragang Rainforest Park.
