Region 9 – The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program delivered the additional feed support to its Farmer-beneficiaries in the province of Zamboanga del Norte on March 22-25, 2022.
The Layer Chicken Feeds worth ₱ 2,041,650.00 was given to 43 Farmers Associations from 18 different municipalities of the province in support to their existing Layer Chicken-Egg Production Project from SAAD.
The said interventions aim to further capacitate the farmers in building up a sustainable project and improve their economic condition. Most of the recipients have successfully replenished the culled chickens, like the Litolet Consumers Cooperative in Siayan that saved Php 556,200.00 for the replenishment of 20 modules (960 heads) of layer chickens.
The Diland Women’s Association (DWA) from Piñan municipality also culled their five modules (240 heads) of chickens this month and were able to immediately replenish it from their savings worth ₱ 167,040.00.
“Before this opportunity came, we were all just at home doing nothing. But when SAAD gave us this project, we were also provided with the capability to support our family’s needs, we became empowered women in our barangay,” said Eliza Mahinay, DWA President.
Maghinay also disclosed that last December, the association was able to give ten (10) active members of the association ₱ 2,500.00 cash and food items such as half sack of rice, cake and soft drinks for their noche buena.
