Davao City: The city will no longer allow cockfight derbies to happen within the area of jurisdiction of the city.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said a consensus was reached between her and the majority of the 19th City Council recently, making the city gambling free.
She said the agreement implies that all gambling activities are no longer allowed in the city.
Duterte-Carpio said the ban on cockfight derby is similar to the position made by the City Government of Davao against the Small-Town-Lottery which she said is a front of other illegal gambling activities.
“The STL was made available to the people especially on the grassroots level before it was eventually banned by Malacanang,” she said.
Duterte-Carpio stressed that government must not make gambling accessible for the ordinary masses, especially to the poor Filipinos. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
