NIATF Says COVID Cases In Zambo. Now Going Plateau

Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections Diseases (NIATF) has described the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) case in the city as now going plateau after the NIATF visited the city Friday morning.

Sec. Vivencio Dizon, Deputy Chief Implementer, NIATF said, “As we have seen, things are getting under control cases starting to plateau.”

He explained, the Modified Enhance Community Quarantine which started last May 8 and extended to May 31 resulted to the plateau of the cases in the city.

Recommendations of the NIATF to the city were speed up detection and isolation timeframe, increase capacity for isolation, and improve contact tracing ratio.

During the visit of the team, they also brought medicines, Personnel Protective Equipments, ventilators, and high flow nasal canula, and 10,000 antigen kits.

On the next quarantine status of the city he said, it will be base on the recommendation of Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar after May 31.

On the possible takeover by the NIATF similar to what happened to Cebu City when thier cases went up Dizon said there is no need yet.

“Right now, we don’t see that yet. (Referring to the take-over) Things are slowly under control but the national government will always be ready to assist Zamboanga.” Dizon said.

Dizon was here together with DOH Assistant Secretary Romeo Ong, Contact Tracing Czar Benjamin Magalong, and Dr. Teodoro Herbosa NIATF Special Adviser.

Currently the city has 8,994 Covid cases, 6,351 recovered, 2,304 active cases, and 339 deaths as of May 19, 2021. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
