NGCP raises yellow alert in Luzon on Wednesday afternoon

The Luzon grid was placed on yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon as several power plants went on forced outage.

From 12 noon to 4pm, the grid registered 32 megawatts (MW) in net operating margin. Demand stood at 10,514MW while supply was at 10,935MW.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said Sual Unit 2 (590MW), GN Power Unit 1 (316MW), SLTEC Unit 2 (121MW), SLGPC Unit 2 (150MW) and Limay Unit 3 (54MW) all went offline. 

Two power plants also failed to deliver its full output. These are Calaca Unit 1, which was deretd by 75MW) and SCPC Unit 3, which was also derated by 60MW).

In all, 1,366MW was shaved off from the grid.The yellow alert was lifted as of 3:45 pm. “due to receding system demand, said NGCP as of press time.
