Bacolod City – Two mayors in Negros Occidental appealed to their constituents to avail of the free vaccines against the coronavirus disease 2019 in view of the spike of the cases in their respective localities.
Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen dela Cruz has ordered the poblacion to be placed under lockdown and will be open only when the cases go down.
A report by Aksyon Radyo Bacolod quoted dela Cruz as saying that cases increased to 90, including 30 active cases and four deaths.
He said that a pregnant woman who delivered a baby at the municipal health unit was positive for the virus.
Eight persons got infected including two midwives who attended to her, the mayor said.
Because of this, Dela Cruz urged the residents to strictly follow the minimum health standards.
He also appealed to hotels, resorts, and coffee shop owners to observe and follow health procedures.
Dela Cruz also said that local tourists are not prohibited from going to the town, but gatherings must be regulated.
He appealed to the locals to get vaccinated to stop the spread of the virus.
He admitted though that there are residents who are apprehensive to get vaccinated.
Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo enjoined residents of the town to get vaccinated after several residents who were not inoculated died of the virus.
The town has 341 cases, with 309 recoveries, 19 active cases and 13 deaths.
Yulo noted that recent COVID deaths were unvaccinated persons.
