Negosyo Center To Spur Economic Activities In Santo Tomas Town — Evangelista

DAVAO CITY- The establishment of DTI’s Negosyo Center would sustain the momentum of the economic growth because of the job opportunities it would bring, a local chief executive said Thursday.

“The establishment of Negosyo Center here aims to foster national development, promote inclusive growth and reduce poverty by encouraging the establishment of MSMEs that facilitate local job creation, production and trade in our municipality,” Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said in his speech during the launching ceremony of the Negosyo Center on Sept 26 besides the Municipal Building, Fd. Rd. # 3, Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte.

Evangelista said the municipal government would implement programs intended to improve the contribution of MSME’s to the local economy by way of employment generation.

“We want to improve the business environment in our locality that would increase productivity and efficiency at the same time implement strategies to access finance and new markets,” he said.

A fully-furnished Negosyo Center was formally turned-over to the municipal government of Santo Tomas on Thursday, Sept. 26. The business center is located besides the Municipal Hall Building in the municipal government compound here.

The simple ceremony was attended by the DTI 11 Regional Director Maria Belinda Ambi and DTI Provincial Director Romeo Castanaga, Vice Mayor Gabrielle Eric Estela, Municipal Administrator and lawyer Elisa Evangelista-Lapina , Rene Bongabong, president of Santo Tomas Chamber of Commerce and other municipal officials.

Joy Gonzaga, the local economic and investment promotions officer, said DTI’s Negosyo Center would display various products of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) coming from the private sectors here.

Gonzaga said the establishment of the Negosyo Center was in line with the GO NEGOSYO ACT or the Republic Act No. 10644 that mandates the establishment of business centers in accessible locations in the cities and municipalities to be able to help entrepreneurs or would-be businessmen grow their businesses.

“The one-stop center helps MSMEs with the processing of business requirements like obtaining registration, business license, and getting technical, financial, and business management assistance,” she said.
