THE National Basketball League (NBL) and Women’s NBL (WNBL)  have decided to suspend the resumption of the games anew after the extension of the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila until September 15.

The two leagues were already scheduled to restart the 2021 season on Saturday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga, with one game in the WNBL and three matches in the NBL.

League officials, however, postponed the games once again after the latest declaration by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases that National Capital Region will remain under MECQ for the next week.

While Pampanga, the venue of the games, is an MGCQ area, some NBL and WNBL professional basketball teams are under MECQ areas which prevents them from conducting practices and trainings under the supervision of the Games and Amusements Board.

NBL and WNBL had previously postponed the season last July 30 in conjunction to the IATF placing Metro Manila under ECQ.

“As much as the teams and players are very excited to return to the court, the NBL and the WNBL will remain compliant with the government mandate during this pandemic,” NBL/WNBL executive vice president Rhose Montreal said.
