Davao City – The National Museum in Davao City (Museo Dabawenyo) reports that they are going to focus on promoting the history and local works of Davao City through their new museum that is set for completion by 2021. This is to increase the awareness of the general public in Davao with regards to the origins of Davao City.

Museo Dabawenyo Head Winnie Rose Galay cited that people should expect more once the National Museum of Davao would open its doors since the National Museum is actively coordinating with Museo Dabawenyo to properly curate the historically relevant exhibit pieces at the said museum.

“It is a five-story building and everyone should expect more since we’re not going to just put up simple galleries in the museum but significant historical pieces which are going to be put on display with the help of the National Museum,” Galay said.

The Museo Dabawenyo Head also mentioned how, apart from historically significant artifacts, the National Museum in Davao City will also feature works of local artists.

In light of this, Museo Dabawenyo is inviting local artists to submit their works for them to have a chance to be part of the exhibits in the expansive National Museum of Davao City.

“This museum will give an opportunity for the local artists of Davao to showcase their skills in art since they can display their works of art in our gallery at the National Museum in Davao City,” Galay said.

Galay added that the current Museo Dabawenyo and the National Museum in Davao City are testament to the importance of having our own local identity as well as a place in the national history of the Philippines as a whole.

“We should treasure and value our local history in Davao City through our local museum,” Galay said.
