The City Government of Surigao, led by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, launched the month-long celebration last Monday, July 3, 2023.

Starting with a solemn Holy Mass attended by our dedicated Disaster Responders, followed by a program at the City Auditorium, graced by the presence of Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, Vice Mayor Alfonso Casurra, CDRRMO Officer Threlzie Villaces, and City Department Heads.

A significant milestone was achieved as Surigao City, along with the Municipalities of Sison and San Francisco, signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on disaster response cooperation. This collaborative agreement strengthens our efforts to enhance resource sharing and coordination during emergencies and disasters.

The event was further highlighted by an awe-inspiring motorcade, braving the heavy rains, and parading through the city streets. It showcased our impressive fleet of Disaster Response vehicles and the dedicated personnel ready to face any challenge.

As we embark on this year’s National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme “𝐁𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞,” let us remember that natural disasters are unpredictable forces of nature. However, with effective disaster preparedness plans, including early warning systems, community education, resilient infrastructure, and emergency response training, we can make a difference. Together, we can save lives, minimize damages, and ensure a swift recovery from any calamity.
