Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Metro Manila Mayors have unanimously agreed to implement curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting March 15.

In an online media briefing on Thursday night, Abalos said the uniformed curfew hours is just one of the tools to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“What is important is back to basics: massive testing, contact tracing , quarantine and add curfew on that with granular lockdown and strict implementation,” Abalos stressed.

The curfew, he said, will be implemented for two weeks in the metropolis.

Abalos said that they even consulted the OCTA Research Team to look at the real picture of the Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Abalos said that the cases in the NCR have increased over a month from 316 cases in a day on February 4-10 to 1,411 cases logged per day after a month.

“We apologize if we will be implementing this stringent measure,” Abalos said adding that they will observe if the cases will decrease after the implementation of the uniformed curfew hours.

He said that they just wanted to prevent clustering of people that may contribute to the increase in cases especially in the streets.

On the other hand, the essential workers like in the food industry, he said, will just show their company ID and they will not be apprehended.

“No need to show a pass,” he concluded.
