Metro Manila likely to remain under GCQ in July

Metro Manila and Bulacan are likely to remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) with some restrictions in July.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said this is based on the latest proposed community quarantine classification of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

The IATF also recommended placing Rizal under GCQ with some restrictions, while Laguna and Cavite will be retaining their GCQ with heightened restrictions classification. 

Meanwhile, Roque said the IATF wants to place the following areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) due to rising Covid-19 cases: Cagayan; Apayao; Bataan; Lucena City; Puerto Princesa; Naga City; Iloilo City, Iloilol Negros Oriental; Zamboanga del Sur; Zamboanga del Norte; Cagayan de Oro City. 

Also to be placed under MECQ are Davao City, Davao Oriental; Davao Occidental; Davao De Oro; Davao Del Sur; Davao Del Norte; Butuan City; Dinagat Islands; Surigao del Sur. 

Roque said the aforementioned classifications are expected to take effect from July 1 to 15, 2021. 

The IATF also recommended to place the following areas under regular GCQ: Baguio City; Ifugao; City of Santiago; Isabela; Nueva Vizcaya; Quirino; Batangas; Quezon; Guimaras; Aklan; Bacolod City; Negros Occidental; Anitque; Capiz; Zamboanga; Sibugay; City of Zamboanga; Iligan City; General Santos City; Sultan Kudarat; Sarangani; Cotabato; South Cotabato; Agusan Del Norte; Surigao  Del Norte; Agusan Del Su; and Cotabato City. 

Roque the areas not mentioned in the previous lists will be placed under modified GCQ (MGCQ). 

The GCQ and the MGCQ classifications will last for the entire month of July. 

Roque earlier said the latest recommended classifications by the IATF are still subject to change depending on the appeal of the affected local government units (LGU). 

He said President Duterte is expected to make another public address this week regarding the matter.
