Davao City:  As the Davao City government steps up stringent rules under an Enhanced Community Quarantine starting Saturday night, 4 April 2020, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has sought the cooperation of all Dabawenyos and follow with the guidelines.

Mayor Sara, who issued Executive order N. 23 on Thursday, said the people’s cooperation is the only key to slow down the transmission of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the absence of vaccine or treatment of the infection.

EO 23 sets stringent rules such as suspension of operation of mass transportation and limiting movement of people to those working in the city government and agencies dealing with disaster, relief, social services and security, and those in the private establishments operating essential services. These people are permitted to travel using buses that the city government has commissioned.

Mayor Sara said other individuals with Food and Medicine passes will be allowed to do their tasks and will benefit from the transportation that the city government has deployed.

“We have to limit the mass transportation to also limit the movement of the people so that they will stay in their houses,” she said during her interview with Davao City Disaster Radio.

The mayor does not discount the possibility of tougher lockdown rules. She said the current situation can be upgraded to an Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine (EECQ) if the Covid-19 remains a public health threat.

“Hopefully we will not reach to the point that we will have to implement an EECQ. Personally, I do not want it,” she said. CIO
