Personnel from Dipolog City Police Station received a phone call from a concerned citizen at 35 minutes past 7 in the morning on January 27, 2020, informing that there has been an alleged shooting incident at National Highway, Brgy. Gulayon, Dipolog City, just infront of Gulayon Integrated School.
Immediately, PSSg Erric Obnimaga Bahin and PCPL Inclan proceeded to the place purposely to verify the veracity of the said report.
Upon the arrival of the responding team, the victim was already brought to Zamboanga del Norte Medical Hospital on board Rescue 911 Dipolog Ambulance.
Initial investigation conducted revealed, the victim accompanied his son to school at around 7:30 in the morning, same date. Just right about his son, a Grade 9 student went inside the gate, a gunshot was heard. The victim, identified as Roel Saldariega was then found running towards the school for safety together with other students.
Gulayon Integrated School personnel then called an ambulance and Dipolog City Police Station when they have found out that Mr. Saldariega sustained one gunshot wound on his abdomen, while his Grade 9 student son is still in the state of shock.
Victim said, he ran for safety because he saw the unidentified perpetrator trying to raise the gun and shot him again. Witnesses saw an alleged maroon-colored van doing a U-turn to Polanco town.
Investigators are looking upon a number of possible leads and motives including a third party issue.
Recovered from the crime scene, 1 empty shell cartridge and 1 slug believed to be of .45 Calibre pistol.
Victim temporarily remains at the hospital while authorities conduct a follow-up investigation to identify the identity and possible arrest of the suspect.
